Warner guides Australia to a win over Srilanka
Dashing left handed opener David Warner gets back to form with an impressive half century against Srilanka and guided his team to second consecutive victory in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup.
Australia defeated Srilanka by 7 wickets with 18 balls remaining and climb to second spot in the Group 1. England are at the top with a better Net Run Rate.
Having won the toss, Australia elected to field first. Srilanka finished in a modest total of 154/6 from their allotted 20 overs. Kusal Perera and Charith Asalanka scored 35 runs each as the duo added 63 runs for the second wicket. Bhanuka Rajapaksa remained unbeaten on 33 runs off 26 balls. Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa picked up 2 wickets each for Australia.
Chasing a target of 155 runs, Australia got off to a solid start as Aaron Finch and Warner added 70 runs for the opening partnership from 6.5 overs. Finch was bowled by Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva for a well made 23 ball 37. Warner scored 65 runs from 42 balls which included 10 fours. Steve Smith and Marcus Stoinis remained unbeaten on 28 and 16 runs respectively.
