Stoinis, Rabada star as Delhi beat Punjab in super over
Delhi Capitals defeated Kings XI Punjab in thrilling match at Dubai on Sunday. Chasing a target of 158 runs to win, Punjab finished on 157/8 resulting in a tie.
Kagiso Rabada bowled a brilliant Super Over for Delhi as Punjab could manage mere 2 runs from it. Delhi easily scored 3 runs from 3 balls to register win in the Super Over.
Earlier, Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to field first. Delhi had a bad start as they lost their top 3 very cheaply. Shikhar Dhawan (0), Prithvi Shaw (5) and Shimron Hetmyer (7) couldnot trouble the scores much. Delhi were once struggling at 3-13 from 4 overs.
Skipper Shreyas Iyer and wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant added 73 runs for 4th wicket to get Delhi back in the game. Iyer scored 32 ball 39 which included 3 sixes while Rishabh Pant scored 31 runs off 29 balls with 4 fours.
Marcus Stoinis was the star for Delhi as he smashed 53 runs off just 21 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. Delhi scored 30 runs off the last over of innings from Chris Jordan. Delhi scored 57 runs off last 3 overs to make a great comeback in the game.
Punjab in reply to Delhi's total of 157/8, finished on idential score after the end of 20 overs. Mayank Agarwal was a lone warrior for Punjab side as he scored brilliant 89 runs from 60 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes. As wickets kept falling from the other end, Mayank kept on doing his job from his end. Mayank was unfortunate to be dismissed in the penultimate ball of the innings when his side needed one run to win. Punjab needed just 1 runs from 3 balls but it was Stoinis who bowled a dot ball followed by 2 wickets to end the match in a tie.
