Rohit guide Mumbai to a win over Kolkata
Skipper Rohit Sharma's 54 ball 80 guided defending champions Mumbai Indians to their first win this season. Kolkata finished on 146/9 from 20 overs in the second innings while chasing a target of 196 runs to win and handed a 49 run victory to Mumbai.
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to field first atSheikh Zayed Stadium. Mumbai lost Quinton de Kock early but Rohit along with Suryakumar Yadav took the charge to the opposition. Rohit-Suryakumar duo added 90 runs for the second wicket before Suryakumar was runout. Suryakumar scored 47 runs off just 28 balls with 6 fours and a six.
Rohit was brilliant for his 54 ball 80. His innings included 3 fours and 6 sixes. A 13 ball 21 from Saurabh Tiwary and 13 ball 18 from Hardik Pandya made sure that Mumbai posted a challenging total on the board.
Shivam Mavi was the pick of the bowlers for Kolkata as he finished with the figures of 2-32. Sunil Narine and Andre Russell picked up a wicket each.
Kolkata in reply never looked like chasing this down. KKR lost both openers Shubman Gill and Sunil Narine early as skipper Dinesh Karthik and Nitish tried to consolidate the innings. Karthik made 30 while Rana made 24. The big hitters Eoin Morgan (16) and Andre Russell (11) couldn't trouble the scorers much. Pat Cummins smashed Bumrah for 4 sixes in the 18th over which went for 27 runs but wasn't enough to take his team to victory. Cummins scored 33 runs off just 12 balls.
Rohit Sharma was named Player of the Match for his superb knock of 80 runs.
