New Zealand win inaugural World Test Championship
New Zealand defeated India by 8 wickets to win the inaugural ICC World Test Championship title at Southampton on Thursday. This is New Zealand's first major ICC title. The black caps had lost two consecutive finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015 and 2019.
The Kiwis needed to chase down a target of 139 runs in the last day. Ravichandran Ashwin picked up the wickets of two openers Devon Conway and Tom Latham as New Zealand were once at 44-2. The most experienced duo in the Kiwi lineup skipper Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor then added an unbeaten partnership of 96 runs to take their team to victory without further hiccups.
