Mumbai on top of points table after a win over Punjab
Defending champions Mumbai Indians defeated Kings XI Punjab by 48 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday. Skipper Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya shined with the bat while bowlers did a good job as an unit to ensure a win for Mumbai.
Mumbai scored 191 runs for the loss of 4 wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. In reply, Punjab lost 8 wickets and managed to score only 143 runs.
Mumbaismashed 89 runs in the last five overs. In the 16th over, Rohit hit two fours and two sixes to James Neesham, adding 22 runs for the team. Hardik hit two fours and a six in the 18th overas Mumbai added 18 runs. Mumbai added 19 runs inShami's 19th over and 25 runs in the last over of Krishnappa Gautham's innings with four sixes.
Rohit scored 45 ball 70 while Pollard and Hardik remained unbeaten on 47 and 30 respectively. Pollard-Hardik duo added 67 runs from last 23 ball of the innnings.
Two of the leadingrun scorers in the tournament,Mayank Agrawal (25) and KL Rahul (17) couldn't bat long for Punjab. Karun Nair could not even openhis account. Nicholas Puran top-scored with 44 runs. He hit 3 fours and 2 sixes in 27 balls. Glenn Maxwell was out for 11 runs.Krishnappa Gowtham hit 2 fours and 1 six in 13 balls and remained unbeaten on 22 runs.
Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad will compete against each other in Dubai on Friday.
