Mumbai crowned IPL 2017 Champions
Mumbai Indians held their nerves in a low scoring thriller in the finals of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to clinch the trophy with a 1 run victory over Rising Pune Supergiant. Pune couldn't chase a target of 130 runs as Mumbai bowlers once again showed an excellent display of bowling in death overs.
Earlier, Mumbai won the toss and elected to bat first. Mumbai batting never really got going as they kept losing wickets regularly. Parthiv (4), Simmons (3)and Rayudu(12) were out cheaply. Skipper Rohit Sharma (24) looked good but couldn't score big. Krunal Pandya with his late hitting took Mumbai to something they could defend. Krunal hit 2 sixes and 3 fours in his 38 ball 47 before he got out on the last ball of the first innings. Jaydev Unadkat bowling brillinatly for his figures of 2-19. Adam Zampa and Dan Christian picked up 2 wickets each.
Pune in reply showed defensive approach. Ajinkya Rahane scored 44 runs at the top of the order while Tripathi was out for just 3 runs. Rahane along with the skipper Steve Smith added 54 runs for second wicket. Credit goes to the bowling trio of Mumbai Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga and Mitchell Johnson for restricting Pune batsman. The required run rate kept on increasing slowly and Pune found themselves 1 run short of the target. Mitchell Johnson had to defend 11 runs in the last over of the innings. Johnson picked up the wicket of well set Steve Smith and Manoj Tiwary in the last over to ensure the victory for his team. He finished with the figures of 3-26 from his 4. Bumrah picked up 2 wickets. Krunal Pandya was named Man of the Match for his match winning knock with the bat.
