Maxwell-Carey centuries guide Australia to a series win
Australia chased down a stiff target of 303 runs in the third match of 3 match series and won the series 2-1. Australia were once struggling at 73-5 chasing a target of 303 runs to win the game. Glenn Maxwell and Alex Carey put on a 212 run partnership for the 6th wicket to guide Australia to victory.
Earlier, England won the toss and elected to bat first. The home side didn't had a great start either as they lost Jason Roy and Joe Root in first two balls of the innings. Opener Jonny Bairstow scored a brilliant century. Bairstow scored 2 sixes and 12 fours in his 126 ball 112.
Crucial contributions from Sam Billings and Chris Woakes in the lower order enabled England to post a challenging 302/7 in the first innings. Billings scored 58 ball 57 while Woakes remained unbeaten on 53 runs off 39 balls. Adam Zampa and Mitchell Starc picked up 3 wickets each while Pat Cummins chipped in with a wicket.
Australia in reply kept losing wickets regularly to find themselves struggling at 73-5 before Maxwell and Carey took the attack to the opposition. Both Maxwell and Carey scored centuries. Carey scored 106 runs off 114 balls which included 7 fours and 2 sixes. Maxwell smashed 7 sixes and 4 fours in his 90 ball 108. Maxwell was named Player of the Match for his match winning knock.
Australia needed 10 runs off the final over bowled by Adil Rashid. Starc smashed a six off the first ball and scored a boundary off the next ball as Australia registered a win by 3 wickets.
