Malinga to miss initial games of IPL
Sri Lankan veteran fast bowler Lasith Malinga is set to miss the initial games of the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season.
According to Cricinfo, the Mumbai Indians bowler will not play the initial games in the IPL, which starts in the UAE on September 19, due to personal reasons.
Malinga's father is ill and may have to undergo surgery in the next few weeks. Malinga is practicing in Colombo.
Due to the protocol laid down by the Sri Lankan government due to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) epidemic, it is said that he did not want to leave his unhealthy father and go to UAE. Sri Lanka has made it mandatory forpeople returning to country from abroadto stay in quarantine for 14 days.
He was instrumental in helping Mumbai win the title in last season's final. Chennai Super Kings needed 9 runs in the last over in the final. Before bowling the last over, he had conceeded 42 runs in his first three overs and Chennai had scored seven runs in the first five balls of the last over. In the last ball, Malinga dismissed Shardul Thakur to give Mumbai a dramatic victory.
Malinga has played 122 games in the IPL and taken 170 wickets at an average of 19.80. The 37-year-old last played for Sri Lanka in a Twenty20 international against the West Indies in March. He is second only to Dwayne Bravo of the West Indies in taking the most wickets in a Twenty20 international.
