India whitewash Srilanka as Kohli slams a ton
India defeated Srilanka by 6 wickets in the 5th and the final match of the series to complete a 5-0 series whitewash.This is the first-ever whitewash suffered by Sri Lanka on home soil.
Chasing a modest target of 239 runs, Indian skipper Virat Kohli brought up his 30th ODI ton and guided his team to victory. Kohli has now levelled with Ricky Ponting both having 30 ODI centuries to their name. Only Sachin Tendulkar is ahead of them with 49 centuries to his name. Openers Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma got out early in the chase as Kohli steadied the chase along with Manish Pandey and Kedar Jadav. Kedar Jadhav completed his half centuries but was unfortunate to get out with just 2 runs needed to his team to win.
Earlier, Srilanka couldmanage 238 runs in the board after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Srilanka failed to build on their first century stand of the series - 122 for the fourth wicket between Lahiru Thirimanne and Angelo Mathews. Thirimanne scored 67 runs while Mathews contributed 55 runs. Bhuvneswor Kumar was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 5 wickets. Bhuvneswor finished with the figures of 5-42.
