India vs England 5th Test cancelled due to Covid-19 concerns

The fifth match of the 5-match test series between hosts England and visitors India has been cancelled duto Covid-19 concerns. The last match of the series was scheduled to start on 10th September, Friday before BCCI and ECB together decided to cancel the match.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has issued an official statement confirming the cancellation of the match. The statement reads, “Following ongoing conversations with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth LV= Insurance Test between England and India Men due to start today at Emirates Old Trafford, will be cancelled.

According to ESPNCricinfo, more than one India player had expressed concerns about taking the field in talks between the BCCI and the team management over the last two days.

As far as the series result is concerned, the series is currently 2-1 in favour of India, but the abandonment of 5th Test would likely mean that either the visiting side has to forfeit the match or complete the series sometime in the future.
