India thrash Srilanka by 304 runs in First Test

India beat Sri Lanka by 304 runs in the first test match of a three match series and take a 1-0 lead as Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja bagged 3 wickets each.

India skipper Virat Kohli slammed his 17th century on Day 4 on Saturday as India set the hosts a stiff target of 550 runs to win. Sri Lanka never looked like threatening that target after losing two early wickets. Opener Dimuth Karunaratne impressed with a hard-fought 97, however, it was not enough as Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at crucial junctures.

Spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja starred with the ball for India in the second innings, picking three wickets a piece while pacers Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Shami chipped in with one each. For Sri Lanka, apart from Karunaratne, Niroshan Dickwella scored 67.

Earlier, India declared their second innings at 240/3 on Day 4 of the 1st Test on Saturday, shortly after Virat Kohli brought up his 17th Test ton, to set 550-run target for hosts Sri Lanka. Virat Kohli-led side tightened its grip on the Galle Test.
