India beat Sri Lanka by 3 wickets in second ODI


India chased down a target of 231 runs in the second ODI against Srilankatotake a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Bhuvneswar Kumar added a record unbeaten 100-run stand for the eighth wicket and took India home.

Earlier, India won the toss and elected to field first. Srilanka managed 236/8 from 50 overs. Milinda Siriwardana was the top scorer for Srilanka with 58 runs. Chamara Kapugedera scored 40 runs while NIroshan Dickwella contributed 31 runs. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for India as he finished with the figures of 4-43 from his quota of 10 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal picked up 2 wickets while Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel shared a wicket each.

India in reply got off to a good start with Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan adding 109 runs for the first wicket. Dhawan got out for a 50 ball 49 while Rohit scored 54 runs off 45 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. India kept losing wickets then to find themselves struggling at 7-131. Mahendra Singh Dhoni(45) and Bhuvneswar Kumar (53) added unbeaten 100 run stand to take India to victory. Akila Dananjaya was the star for Srilanka with the ball as he picked up 6 wickets and finished with the figures of 6-54. Dananjaya was named Player of the Match for his bowling performance.
