Will India continue with its T20 focus in ODI? India won't go ballistic from the first ball, but batsmen are expected to take their fearless approach from the shorter format to the ODIs.

India's high-stakes play helped them win the series against England and considering ODIs have become an extension of the shorter format, skipper Rohit Sharma sees no reason why his team should back down from that approach.

England redefined the way ODI cricket was played and their dominant streak culminated in the World Cup trophy in 2019. It will not be an exaggeration to say that India's new perspective towards shorter formats is inspired by the English squad.

“All games are important to us. We cannot play to think that the ODIs are not a priority. You have to take into account the workload of each player. We will make changes, but our ultimate goal is to win games”. Rohit said on Sunday after the third T20 in Nottingham.

“For us the aim is to understand cue ball cricket, how to play it, the new guys are playing it. 50 over is an extension of T20. Maybe you take less risks in ODIs compared to T20 cricket, but you have to take it."

India Playing XI 1st ODI:

All eyes will be on the out of form Virat Kohli. He will bat in his preferred number three position.

India will field a strong Playing XI with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami set to share the new ball in the opening game of the series against Jos Buttler and co.

  • Men in Blue skipper Rohit Sharma will open the innings alongside Shikhar Dhawan, who has been consistently scoring runs for India in the ODI format.
  • However, the pressure is building on Virat Kohli to get a good score. His run of poor results is a cause for concern for the team's management.
  • Suryakumar Yadav will be chosen ahead of Shreyas Iyer. He has made the middle order and number four his own with a brilliant hundred in the third T20 on Sunday.
  • Rishabh Pant is the obvious choice for the team's batsman. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are the two all-rounders on the team.
  • Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal will once again appear ahead of Axar Patel as the sole spin specialist in XI.
  • Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are going to lead the Indian attack. It could be a draw between Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna. The latter may be a bit ahead due to his great pace.

Likely Playing XI:

Rohit Sharma (centre), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (week), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, J Bumrah, Mohd Shami, Shardul Thakur/Prasidh Krishna, Yuzvendra Chahal

The ODI series will be Buttler's first since taking over as Eoin Morgan's cue ball skipper. After the T20 disappointment, the hosts will be keen to bounce back strong.

England Playing XI:

England will be bolstered by the return of star players Ben Stokes, Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow, the hero of the hosts' Birmingham Test victory. Although Root does not play T20, Stokes and Bairstow rested after the historic victory in the rescheduled fifth Test.

This will be Jos Buttler's first captaincy test in ODI format.

England SQUADS:

Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Jonathan Bairstow, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Craig
Overton, Matthew Parkinson, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Phil Salt, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey

The team will have an optional training session at The Oval with a quick turnaround time between the T20 and ODI heats.
