ICC Cricket World Cup : Australia and New Zealand register wins
Defending Champions Australia and New Zealand registered wins in the third day of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup on Saturday. Australia defeated Afghanistan by 7 wickets while New Zealand thrashed Srilanka by 10 wickets.
New Zealand too good for Srilanka
New Zealand won the toss and elected to field first inCardiff and Srilanka were bundled out for mere 136 runs. SkipperDimuth Karunaratne was the top scorer for Srilanka with 52 runs at the top of the order. Kushal Perera scored 29 runs while Thisara Perera contributed 27 runs. Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson shared 3 wickets each while Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme, James Neesham and Mitchell Santner shared a wicket each for the Kiwis.
Australia outplay Afghanistan
In the second match of the day, Afghanistan faced the defending champions Australia atBristol. Afghanistan could manage 207 losing all wickets from 38.2 overs. Najibullah Zadran was the top run scorer with 51 runs off 49 balls. He smashed 22 runs off Adam Zampa's one over with a four and 2 sixes.Rahmat Shah scored 43 while skipper Gulbadin Naib contributed 31 runs.
Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers for Australia as he finished with the figures of 3-40 from 8.2 overs. Adam Zampa was touch expensive but bagged 3 wickets.
