Dhawan-Shaw starts as Delhi beat Chennai by 7 wickets
Openers Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw shined bright with the bat as Delhi Capitals started their IPL 2021 campaign with an impressive win over Chennai Super Kings on Saturday.
Chasing a target of 189 runs to win, the opening duo of Dhawan and Shaw put on 138 runs for opening partnership. Prithvi Shaw made 72 runs from 38 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes. Player of the match Dhawan scored 85 runs off 54 balls which included 10 fours and 2 sixes. Skipper Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten on 15 runs while Marcus Stoinis made 14 runs as Delhi achieved the target in 18.4 overs.
Earlier, Chennai were invited to bat first after Delhi won the toss. Chennai lost both openers cheaply as Faf du Plessis couldn't even open his account while Ruturaj Gaikwad made 5 runs. Moeen Ali and Suresh Raina then added 53 runs for the third wicket before Moeen was caught by Dhawan off Ashwin. Moeen made 36 from 24 balls while Suresh Raind completed his half century. Raina played well for his 36 ball 54 which included 3 fours and 4 sixes. Sam Curran's 15 ball 34 and Ravindra. Jadeja's 17 ball 26 provided the finishing touch as Chennai posted 188/7 from their allotted 20 overs.
