Chitwan into the finals after 9 wicket victory over Pokhara
Chitwan Tigers defeated Pokhara Rhinos by 9 wickets in the qualifier of the Everest Premier League (EPL) in TU Cricket Ground to secure a place in the finals of the tournament. The final match is scheduled to be played on Saturday.
Having won the toss and elected to field first, Chitwan restricted Pokhara to mere 66 runs. Openers Richard Levi and Sunil Dhamala added 33 runs for the first wicket before Levi was bowled by skipper Sompal Kami. Levi made 12 ball 19 while Dhamala scored 18 runs from 31 balls. Once Levi got out, Pokhara never really recovered as they kept on losing one after another to get bowled out for 66 runs. Sagar Dhakal and Shahab Alam picked up 4 wickets each while Sompal Kami and Karim Janat shared a wicket each.
A target of 67 runs was never going to be enough to challenge the batting lineup of Chitwan. Dashing opener Mohammad Shahzad blasted 48 runs off just 26 balls including 7 fours and 2 sixes. Hasim Ansari and Karim Janat remained unbeaten on 14 and 4 runs respectively.
Kathmandu Kings XI and Bhairahawa Gladiators will be facing each other in the first eliminator, the winner of which will face Pokhara for a place in the finals.
