Despite a heroic innings of 146(117) with 9 fours and 11 sixes and an impressive bowling figures of 49-3 of Marcus Stoinis, New Zealand beat Australia by 6 runs in the first ODI at Eden Park, Aukland. New Zealand now lead the 3 match series 1-0.

Chasing a target of 286, Australia didn't get a good start. Australia were once struggling at 67-6. Marcus then got a bit support from James Faulkner(25) and Pat Cummins(36) and nearly took Australia to an improbable looking victory. In a partnership of over 50 runs with last man Hazlewood, all runs were scored by Stoinis and Hazlewood didn't even faced a single ball during his 26 minutes at the crease. Kane Williamson ended the Australian innings by running out Hazlewood with Australia requiring just 7 runs to win in 18 balls.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and the skipper Aaron Finch invited New Zealand to bat first. New Zealand posted a total of 286 on the board with Martin Guptill(61) and Neil Broom(73) completing their half centuries. Jimmy Neesham scored a quick 48 in the New Zealand's total.

Marcus Stoinis was awarded Man of the Match for his brilliant performance with the bat and bowl.
