Australia defeated India by a huge margin of 333 runs in the first test at Pune to take a 1-0 lead in the series. India was never in the game as Australia completely dominated the match from the beginning and completed the victory inside three days.

Austraila managed 260 runs in their first innings with Renshaw's 68 and Starc's 61. India were bowled out for just 105 in their first innings with Steve O'Keefe picking up 6 wickets. Austraila in the second innings got to 285 and set a target of 441 runs in the fourth innings. Steve Smith scored 109 runs in second innings to set a mamooth target for India to chase.

India's batting didn't showed any improvement in second innings too. India was bowled out for just 107 in the second innings. Steve O'Keefe picked up 6 wickets in second innings and completed the match with figures of69-12 which is the best figures ever by a visiting spinner in a Test on Indian soil.

Steve O'Keefe was awarded Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.
