Sunrisers Hyderabad : Probable XI and Team Analysis IPL 2020

The inaugural match of 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is mere few days away. The team and organizers preparation are in final stage while we are bringing you the team analysis and probable eleven of each team. This time we are analyzing the squad and playing eleven of Sunrisers Hyderabad.

After a decent playoff journey in previous season, Sunrisers Hyderabad are now all set to take the field in new season. Hyderabad qualified for the playoffs after finishing 4th in the League Stage only to get defeated by Delhi Capitals in the eliminator.

Batsmen :

David Warner, Jonny Bairstow (WK), Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Abdul Samad, Priyam Garg, Shreevats Goswami (WK), Virat Singh

Lets start with the dynamic duo of Warner and Bairstow as the opening pair for Hyderabad. The Warner-Bairstow pair smashed four 100+ partnerships and three 50+ partnerships in the 10 innings they played together in IPL 2019. Their contribution played a crucial role in Hydebarad's journey to playoffs last season. The same will be expected off them in this season if not more.

With Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson to bat at 3, the top order looks solid for the team. Only Sunrisers seems to have solid top 3 on paper that can challenge the top 3 of Mumbai Indians with De Kock, Lynn and Rohit. Williamson along with Manish Pandey will have huge resonsibility for covering up for their inexperienced finishers.

Allrounders :

Vijay Shankar, Mohammad Nabi, Fabian Allen, Mitchell Marsh, Abhishek Sharma, Sandeep Bavanaka, Sanjay Yadav

Vijay Shankar needs to step up this season if he needs to secure a place in Indian national side. Shankar was looked as a backup for Hardik Pandya in national team but hasn't lived upto the expectations so far. Looking at his previous performances, one can't consider him as a safe bet though. I personally feel that this tournament most probably will be a career defining platform for Shankar. The playing conditions in UAE will be a challenge for someone like him.

Hyderabad do have options of Mohammad Nabi or Mitchell Marsh as a finisher. I am sure Nabi can be a brilliant pick looking at the slow nature of pitches in UAE. In fact, Nabi will definitely get chances in the later stages of the tournament when the pitch gets even slower with more number of matches.

Bowlers :

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Rashid Khan, Shahbaz Nadeem,Sandeep Sharma, Basil Thampi, Billy Stanlake, Siddharth Kaul, T Natarajan

The bowling attack is one of the biggest strength of this side. Quality and variety in bowling options forms a strong bowling unit for SRH.

The pace attack will be led by the dependable Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Khaleel Ahmed and Sandeep Sharma might be the first choice as pacer but Siddharth Kaul and Basil Thampi are nice backups to have. It will be interesting to see how SRH would look to utilize the services of Billy Stanlake as the pace department is dominated by Indian pacers. As a whole, it is a nice headache to have for the captain and management. The variations and quality of pacers will allow the team to go with specific options based on the oppositions and playing conditions.

One can't ignore the fact that spin is going to play a crucial role in the tournament. A quality leg spinner in the name of Rashid Khan can be headache to any opposition especially when the tournament is being held in UAE. Rashid is more than a handy batsman lower down the order. Personally, I would love to see Rashid being used as a pinch hitter in case if required. Rashid is equally backup up by the likes of Shahbaz Nadeem and Mohammad Nabi in spin department.

Probable Playing XI

David Warner
Johny Bairstow / Wriddhiman Saha
Kane Williamson
Manish Pandey
Vijay Shankar
Priyam Garg / Abhishek Sharma
Rashid Khan
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Shahbaz Nadeem / Mohammad Nabi
Sandeep Sharma / Siddharth Kaul
Khaleel Ahmed

Player to Watch Out : Rashid Khan and Manish Pandey

The one thing that will trouble Hyderabad is the inexperienced middle order. The top four looks solid with Warner, Bairstow, Williamson and Manish Pandey. The likes of Shankar, Priyam Garg and Abhishek Sharma will not find it easy to play as finishers.

One option for Sunrisers would be to bring someone like Nabi or Marsh in middle order. But the question is who will they bench. Warner and Rashid will have to play. So, based on the performances and availability, Williamson or Bairstow can be benched to strengthen the middle order. They can even go with 3 spinners Rashid, Nabi and Nadeem if the situation demands that.

As far as the team's journey is considered in the tournament, I feel this team might find it difficult to qualify for the playoffs.
