Mumbai vs Chennai : Match Prediction and Probable Playing XI

There couldn't have been better contest to start the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) than two of the most successful teams facing each other namely Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The finalists of the previous season will lock horns against each other as both teams will be looking to start their campaign to the title with a win.

Not to forget, this is the first match and it will be interesting to see if the teams have adapted to the conditions and environment in UAE. Traditionally, Mumbai have been shaky starters while Chennai have been consistent mostly.

Match Prediction

Purely based on my instincts and looking at the balance between youths and experience, I am giving slight advantage to the defending champions Mumbai. I expect the match to be 60-40 in favor of Mumbai Indians. Having said that, Chennai is always in the game and is expected to give tough competition to MI.

Player to Watch Out : Quinton de Kock

Chennai Super Kings Probable Playing XI :

Shane Watson
Faf du Plessis
Ambati Rayudu
MS Dhoni (C & WK)
Kedar Jadhav
Ravindra Jadeja
Dwayne Bravo
Piyush Chawla
Deepak Chahar
Shardul Thakur
Imran Tahir

Player to Watch Out : Imran Tahir

Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene has hinted that the team is likely to open with Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock which means Chris Lynn has to miss out in the eleven. de Kock will have a key role to play while guys like Rohit or Ishan Kishan will probably be the aggressive one.

The finishing department looks pretty solid for Mumbai with the presence of hard hitting Hardik and Pollard. Nathan Coultern-Nile will probably get a place for his allround abilities. Jasprit Bumrah has been very effective for Mumbai over the years and Rohit will be looking to depend on Bumrah for death overs this time around too. Rahul Chahar can be a surprise package with his leg spin.

As far as Chennai side is concerned, the experienced duo of Watson-du Plessis will open the innings. Rayudu might have to bat at 3 in the absence of Suresh Raina. I expect MS Dhoni to bat higher up the order for Chennai which will mean guys like Bravo and Jadeja along with Kedar Jadhav will have to lift their game as a finisher.

The bowling looks good for Chennai with Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur as the pacers while the purple cap holder from previous season Imran Tahir is someone to be watched. Chennai's fate in this tournament will heavily rely on Tahir's wickets tally.

Theprediction and probable playing eleven is purely personal opinion of the writer.
