Nepal U19 register their first win of the ICC Asia U19 World Cup Qualifiers at Kuala Lumpur after they defeated Singapore U19 by 217 runs on Friday. Given a target of 283, Singapore kept losing their wickets starting from 9-1 when Chabria was run out by Rashaid Khan at 5thover. Venugopal, the second top scorer for Singapore U19 side got caught out by Rohit Kumar Poudel on Malla’s ball scoring 18 runs at 13thover. Later, Sawney top scored 28 runs on the sheet with all of the other batsmen failing to score runs on double digit figure.

Earlier in the morning, the Nepal U19’s opening pair once again failed to cope with the surface of the Selangor Turf Club. Losing two quick wickets of Gautam and Aasif with only 18 runs on the board, skipper Paudel and Sarraf resurrected the inning with 90 runs stand for third wicket. Unfortunately, Sarraf missed his half century before getting caught out at Sudarshan’s hand on Gune’s ball scoring 47 runs off 53 balls. Later, Bhim Sharki, “Jonty” played some cameo role to quick fire 26 runs off 19 balls before getting caught out at Singhavi’s hand on Mehta’s ball. The 77 runs partnership between Rohit and Rashid for 7thwicket boosted the team total to 237 runs before Rashid also missing his half century by 2 runs. Skipper Rohit Paudel top scored the sheet with 95 runs with 7 fours and 1 six. Kamal Singh Airee quick fired in the deadovers with 3 sixes and a boundary taking the score to 282-9 before Gune was on his hattrick taking his 3rdand 4thviz. KS Airee and S Tamang restricting score to 282-10.

Standout batting performances

Skipper RK Paudel played his knocks which could be preserved as a template of his finest batting display ahead his 91 runs inning against UAE at ACC U19 Asia Cup 2018. With Nepal reduced to 18-2, he walked on to the pitch to build the inning to 274-8 before his wicket fell at 46thover. He missed his century by 5 runs despite his brilliant knock. The initial focus was to ensure there were no further setbacks with Sarraf batting on the crease; the duo stitched a 90 runs partnership for third wicket and kept the scoreboard ticking with plenty of singles, doubles and boundaries. Pawan Sarraf and Rashaid Khan’s batting performances are praiseworthy though they missed their half centuries by 3 and 2 runs respectively. The quick fire cameos of Jonty and KS Airee shall not be forgotten on setting up this total of 282 runs on the board.

At the other end, there were no significant batting displays by the batsmen as the wicket kept stumbling, leading to a major collapse to 65-10. Sawney top scored on the sheet for Singapore U19 side with 28 runs that included a six and 4 boundaries.

Standout Bowling performance

Atharva Gune was the standout bowler for Singapore U19 side. He took 4 crucial wickets including P Sarraf (47), RK Paudel(95), KS Airee (31) and S Tamang (0) to restrict Nepal U19 side to the total of 282-10 at 46thover. He was on a hattrick while he packed Nepal U19 at 46thover with his personal performance of 8-1-37-4.

Pawan Sarraf, Kushal Malla and Surya Tamang were the standout bowlers for Nepal U19 side. These three young bowlers had such a powerful guns on their arsenal which could not be handled by opponents side. Pawan Sarraf had a brilliant spell as he took 3 wickets giving away just 5 runs in his 6 overs spell that included 5 maiden overs. Sarraf bowled 34 dot balls with an economy of just 0.83 in his spell while Kushal and Surya Tamang bowled 40 and 36 dot balls in their 8 and 7 overs spell respectively.
