Delhi vs Punjab : Match Prediction and Probable Playing XI

Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab are taking on each other in the second day of the ongoing 13th Indian Premier League (IPL) at Dubai on Sunday. Both teams would want to start the tournament with a win and will be giving their full effort for the same.

Both teams are led by young captains in the name of KL Rahul (Punjab) and Shreyas Iyer (Delhi) and will be interesting to see how they go about the business. Shreyas has the experience of captaining the side in last season but leading his team in UAE might be completely different scenario altogether. KL Rahul on the other hand is being looked as future captain of Indian national side and hence this tournament is very crucial in terms of his captaincy along with his role as an opener batsman.

Match Prediction

Since, it is the first game for both the teams in this season, a lot will depend upon how much they are able to adapt to the conditions and prepared as a team. But taking into considerations the team balance on paper, Delhi looks a better side to me. I will place a bet on Delhi for this match. Its about 70-30 in favor of Delhi for me.

Delhi Capitals Probable Playing XI

Shikhar Dhawan
Prithvi Shaw
Ajinkya Rahane
Shreyas Iyer (C)
Rishabh Pant (WK)
Marcus Stoinis
Keemo Paul / Sandeep Lamichhane
Ravichandran Ashwin
Amit Mishra
Kagiso Rabada
Ishant Sharma / Axar Patel

Player to Watch : Rishabh Pant

Kings XI Punjab Probable Playing XI

KL Rahul (C & WK)
Chris Gayle
Mayank Agarwal
Glenn Maxwell / Nicholas Pooran
Krishnappa Gowtham
Ravi Bishnoi
Deepak Hooda
Sheldon Cottrell
Mohammed Shami
Ishan Porel
Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Player to Watch : KL Rahul

As far as Pubjab's playing eleven is concerned, there are still doubts over the chances of Chris Gayle. I personally feel, Gayle should be tried for at least few games initially. We haven't seen much of Ravi Bishnoi and Ishan Porel while guys like Krishnappa Gowtham and Deepak Hooda have shown some promise in whatever chances they have been provided. Shami will be a key man in the bowling lineup. Someone like Mujeeb Ur Rahman might get more effective as the tournament progresses and the pitches get more slower.

Delhi looks a balanced side. However, Iyer has few tough calls too. Rahane has been playing as an opener and with the presence of Dhawan and Shaw, Rahane perhaps has to bat at 3. Or will Delhi go in with Shimron Hetmyer by leaving out someone like Mujeeb and bench Rahane ? I personally feel Rahane should be in playing eleven.

Delhi also have variety of options in bowling department especially spinners. Ishant and Rabada are more likely to be the frontline pacers. Amit Mishra and Ravichandran Ashwin will be premier spinners but they do have the luxury of Sandeep Lamichhane and Axar Patel. I am very excited to see how Delhi select their playing eleven because there are a number of other possible combinations that they can try out.

The prediction and probable playing eleven is purely personal opinion of the writer.
