Everybody is aware of the relationship between BCCI and Cricket South Africa (CSA), which dates back many years. Cricket South Africa is the only cricket governing body that is close to the BCCI. And this bond dates back to the South African cricket board's suspension when none other than India welcomed them for their comeback and received a rapturous welcome from the fans.

For years, BCCI and South African cricket boards have had a special relationship, dating back to when India was the loudest voice in banning South Africa from international cricket in 1970 as a  punishment for the atrocity that was Apartheid. And welcoming them back in after unity in 1991. They were the first country to host South Africa following its readmission, as well as the first to tour South Africa.

Rift Between Cricket South Africa & BCCI; Haroon Lorgat the reason behind it.

The relationship started to degrade when Haroon took over the charge. Haroon and BCCI had rifts come since he was the CEO of ICC.

Lorgat claimed he was shocked to find that the BCCI objected to his appointment as Majola's successor and even threatened to shorten or cancel his tour. He declared that he considered the BCCI to be "friends" and that he would do whatever it needed to put things right, even if that meant apologizing to them across a table. His words provide comfort, but his deeds have not.

CSA would lose 175 million if the series was shortened.

Since then CSA and BCCI didn't have the relationship like earlier.

Present Situation

However, after all the rifts, the relationship between these two boards is back on track.

India toured South Africa at the time when COVID-19 third wave was on pick and South Africa was witnessing a surge in case. CSA assured BCCI of proper management and India travelled there.

The decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to travel to South Africa, according to CSA chairman Lawson Naidoo, demonstrates the strong affinity that exists between the two nations.

Also, CSA is all set to launch their T20 league next year and BCCI is helping CSA to make it grand and even all the 6 teams are owned by IPL team owners

Role of IPL

The team and players from South Africa are the most adored in India. The most adored players in the IPL are from South Africa, and even though he plays against India, AB De Villiers is supported by Indian fans who yell and cheer for him.

Other South African players like Steyn, Faf, De Kock, and Rabada are also very well-liked and have gained a sizable fan base in India.
